Company Origins

Curious Minds Media was founded in 2004 by Eric Meyer and Travis Robie, two enterprising young men who had first worked together while guiding rock climbing on New York's Shawangunk Ridge. Recognizing a need in the marketplace for approachable web development services, they decided to go into business together, and began writing code out of an old barn in the historic Tuthilltown gristmill. The business was a quick success, and Curious Minds opened its Kingston office in 2005.

From Flash to Frameworks

Over the next few years Curious Minds gained a reputation for developing innovative Flash websites for Broadway shows, pushing the limit of what was possible with technology at the time. At the same time, the two began experimenting with combining Flash with remote data services, as well as live video streaming.

This early exploration enabled the team to succeed at more complex projects, and further growth for the company. The team Curious Minds began to invest heavily into learning software design patterns, and enterprise software architectures. At the same time, with the rise of the first iPhone, the importance of Adobe Flash gave way to Javascript based libraries.

Remote Often

Over the next few years, Curious Minds continued to grow, adding more services, developers and expertise. Owing much to its location, Curious Minds was also at the forefront of the remote work revolution, managing and working with developers and teams across the country.

Curious Minds also began to develop its maintenance services, focusing primarily on investing in its WordPress practice, applying the hard-earned lessons gained working with enterprise architectures to the WordPress realm. Curious Minds quickly gained a reputation for technical expertise and quality.
